Zeljika heard about Kurbo through her workplace. She explains, “One of my coworkers told me about Kurbo, but at first I wasn’t interested. Later, I noticed a couple of ladies at work looked more slender, and they told me about Kurbo. Seeing their results and hearing about their experiences made me want to try it.” She adds, “I didn’t have any specific expectations, but thought it would be nice if I could lose 20 pounds. I am nearing 40 and I know people start getting health problems around this age. I want to stay healthy and active for as long as possible.” 

The non-judgemental approach of a Kurbo Coach encouraged her. Zeljika explains, “I am pretty strict towards myself. At first, I thought that Coach Kelly wasn’t strict enough because she always said I did a good job when I thought I could have done better, but then I started trusting her more. I didn’t feel like she was scolding or judging me and all of her feedback had merit and was valuable to me. During coaching sessions, she would ask me about my goals for the week and then give me specific advice about how to achieve those goals. It might seem like 15 minutes a week with a coach is nothing, but that small amount of time is valuable.” 

Zeljika found herself frequently craving healthy foods. She says, “I don’t know what happened, but there are certain foods I enjoy now that I didn’t before. Now, I crave a lunch of salad and chicken and I am naturally craving fruits and veggies more.” She adds, “I like it when changes happen in me naturally rather then feeling like I’m forcing myself to make the change.” 

Her healthy eating habits have even rubbed off onto her husband.  She says, “Eating healthy is not a chore. I am actually enjoying it and it has had a positive impact on the people around me. My husband used to refuse to eat fruit and now he is eating it. I used to get a lot of resistance from him, but now he also wants to eat apples while watching tv as opposed to something else that’s a red light.”

She got strategic about her healthy eating, especially with Christmas on the horizon. Zeljika shares, “I thought I was eating healthy already, but there was a lot of room for improvement. I started being strategic and would plan for my red lights ahead of time. Around Christmas time, I did my best to compensate for the many treats available by incorporating healthy green light meals. If you know you’re going to be in a situation with red lights, add some green lights in to compensate. I am also accepting that you can’t always be 100% ‘perfect.’” She adds, “I never felt like I was being deprived of anything. I was just gradually changing my bad habits.”  

Zeljika feels fantastic today. She explains, “Before, I was feeling a little dejected and thought I was going to have to accept being overweight. I had gained weight and carried it for a while and tried different things, but nothing really worked. I basically gave up and thought that I’d never lose the weight.” She concludes, “Now I’m happy that I managed to take the weight off. It is so nice to fit into those old clothes that I was going to throw out. It’s a good feeling because I have wanted to lose the weight for a while and I finally accomplished it in a sustainable way!”
