Hari wanted to lose weight and avoid regrets. He shares, I felt that I was getting overweight and so my main goal was to lose weight, yet my goals changed over time to being healthier in general.” He notes, “My family has a history of weight-related ailments including heart disease, arthritis and Type 2 diabetes. I didn’t want to look back on life and think I should have done something differently.”

He constantly had access to his personal Kurbo coach. Hari explains, “The most important part of Kurbo was the weekly check-in with Coach Faith. She was looking at what I was eating and what I was doing and gave me constant feedback on what I could improve on. She kept talking about the importance of not just eating healthy, but also bringing exercise into the mix.” Hari adds, “The first couple weeks I was hesitant and not really exercising. Coach Faith really talked about the importance of it so I tried. The idea of bringing in fitness on a daily basis really helped. I learned I could start with just 15 – 20 minutes a day and that I didn’t need to work out 60 or more minutes a day right away. I didn’t even have to leave my home and could use online videos. Now, when I wake up the first thing I want to do is exercise. I have a fitness schedule set up and do 30 minutes of exercise every day.”

Using the traffic light food classification system really helped Hari. He shares, Before Kurbo, I would always think about whether or not a food was “good.” The whole idea of the traffic lights kept healthy eating super simple. Bringing in lots of green lights, limiting red lights, and having some yellow lights made it really easy. Tracking my food has helped the traffic light system become part of how I eat. I don’t think about it too much anymore; I see foods and just know what category they are. The traffic light system and increased activity level just become part of your life.”

He looks for ways to focus on being healthier. Hari explains, “When you’re losing weight, it is easy to be continually motivated by the dropping number on the scale. But, once you get to the weight you want, that source of motivation is gone. Once I got to that weight, I started searching for the next source of motivation. Having a new target to shoot for, like a half-marathon and marathon has really helped. Training for a marathon has been very energizing and interesting.”

Hari discovered you can satisfy your hunger with healthy foods. “The thing that was most surprising to me was how I could still eat healthily and not feel hungry. I was choosing to eat carbs to fill my stomach because I always had a concern that if I didn’t eat enough carbs, I would be hungry. I learned that if you eat enough green lights and healthy yellow lights, you can still feel energetic and full,” Hari states.

Hari feels multiple benefits as a result of trying Kurbo.  “This has been a great program and worked well for me. One great benefit is the very fact that I lost about 40 pounds, and feeling that difference as I walk around. I think the mix of traffic lights, along with the fact that there is a coach with a weekly call is a great idea. It’s a really simple program and gives you a good course correction. I feel healthier, more energized and more ready to take on challenges,” Hari concludes.
