Whether going clothes shopping for you means spending a whole day browsing through all the shops at the mall or heading straight to your favorite store, shopping for new clothes can be really exciting.  I mean, who doesn’t love to get a cool new outfit that they can show off at school on Monday? Shopping should be a FUN experience!  However, with all the outside pressure from the media and magazines, wearing a certain style and fitting into an “ideal” size can make clothes shopping very stressful.  So, what’s the trick to making shopping fun again?  Stay body positive!

Consider these tips to staying body positive next time you go clothes shopping:

1. Find the style that works for YOU

Let’s face it.  Not EVERYONE looks good in EVERYTHING.  Those fitted jeans, slim dresses and bright red lipstick may look fantastic on Taylor Swift, but that doesn’t mean that it’s the best look for YOU.  Think about what you feel comfortable in and what makes you feel the most confident.  Maybe the casual jeans and Converse look is the style that best suits you.  Or maybe bright colored shirts and floral skirts is the look that makes you shine.  No matter what the style is, look in the mirror and ask yourself, “Does this reflect my personality?”  And more importantly, “Does this outfit make me feel awesome?”

2. Don’t get too caught up in the size

By watching TV, looking at magazines and browsing celebrities’ social media, you would think that everyone should be a size zero.  But, the truth is, most people aren’t.  Don’t get too caught up in the size imprinted on the label.  Not all clothes brands have the same size criteria anyway – what may be a size 4 for one brand may be a size 6 or 7 in another!  The important part is choosing a size that best fits you and flatters your unique figure.  Say to yourself, “this size 6 in this brand is the right fit for me, and I look great!”

3. Experiment with accessories

So many times what really makes an outfit are not the items that have a size on them, but the accessories!  A cute hat, a colorful scarf, some fun jewelry – all of these things can really add some pop to your style and make you stand out.  Experiment with different options and see if something puts a smile on your face when you look in the mirror.  You might be surprised at what a little accessorizing can do to your look and your confidence!

4. Keep your focus on health

Yes, looking good makes you feel good.  And one of your goals for Kurbo may be to look good, feel more confident or maybe lose a few extra pounds.  But don’t forget what an amazing accomplishment you made just by signing up for Kurbo!  This means that you care about your health and are taking steps to improve your health by making better food choices and exercising.  This by itself is a huge achievement, and you should feel so proud of yourself!  So, you may not look the way you think other people think you SHOULD look, but you know that you’re on the right path of taking care of yourself.  Keep your focus on LIVING healthier, not just seeing the numbers on the scale go down or fitting into that size zero.

So, make clothes shopping fun and exciting again, and keep it BODY POSITIVE!
